We started the day by going to a gallery
which displays the works of Sculptor Ivan Mestrovic (1883-1962) but as it was a
national holiday, Independence Day, the facility was closed. We could see a few
sculptures outside on the lawns and through the windows.
The next stop was the old city. All over
Croatia you see advertisements for The Game of Thrones. Some of it was filmed
here so it is a big draw. We saw Diocletian's Palace, the Peristyle of
Diocletian's Palace, Cathedral and the Bell Tower of St. Domnius – all were
interesting with a long history behind them.
The seafront side of the old city is all
restaurants, coffee shops and places where you can get a drink. It was possible
to find a table when we were there but
we were told that in the summer it is near impossible to find a seat. September
and early October are definitely the better times to visit here. There were few
parking places available even now.
