Makarska

Time to move on down the coast to Makarska – another tourist city on the Dalmatian Coast. Croatia has one main business – tourism – so areas have been developed in a manner to be attractive to tourists. Nice walking and hiking trails, nice city parks, natural reserves and nice beaches are easy to find.

It was a nice quiet day when we arrived. We walked along the shore to another city park on a peninsula – smaller than in Split but quite nice.

In one section of the peninsula we saw a long fence full of thousands of padlocks and a statue of Svati Petar watching the Adriatic Sea over this fence. Couples in love are supposed to write their names on the padlocks or love locks and lock to the fence to symbolize their love. And the saint is holding a key in his hand possibly guarding their love.

We finished the day with a good dinner at a good restaurant while waiting out the rain storm.
