The toll on Italian freeways seems to be
near 10€ cents (0.10 cents) per km – twice today the bill was 21.60€ for 200 km
road each. The tolls in Turkey for roads equally good are a fraction of that
amount.
All along the drive across the country you
see the Alps in the North. After Torino the road heads into those mountains.
The drive up the Aosta Valley is picturesque with green scenery all around,
mountains on both side – some of them snowcapped – and historical structures on
hilltops.
Maps.me refused to recognize the address of
our accommodations and Google Maps won’t work without a net connection. No
problem though – Ferda figured out how we could wind our way up the hillside
above Aosta to where we thought the Airbnb home was located. She asked one
fellow who was walking along with a mowing machine and despite him speaking
French which neither of us understand he managed to tell us to continue on 100
meters more and all was OK.
Sure enough – 100 meters more and we see a
grandfather working in the yard and it we were at our destination. Very friendly folks all around it seems.
A nice road one
car at a time. Winter would prove
difficult when there is ice and snow!
This is what we see through the windows of our new place here:
