Trekking on Bjelasica Mountain

Today we drove from town to a mountain hut in Vranjak. 27 km only but it took an hour to get there. Especially the last 6 km was very narrow trail winding up the hillside.

Then we started our hike up the mountain. The entire hike was above timberline.

The hills were covered with blueberries and wild flowers. At some points we walked between the milk cows who were totally indifferent to us being there. On the return we saw a herd of horses (but no sign of cowboys!!!). While we were watching the herd took off runnig over the hills (looking for the cowboys!!!). 

The day started with sunshine, later on clouds came around the mountain tops. Due to the wheather closing in we cut the hike short by 2 km. 

Overall the trek was 12.5 km, 519 m elevation gain/loss. The highest point being 2128 m. It took 5 and a half hours with two coffee breaks.
