Sightseeing Around the Durmitor

Turns out the weather forecast was very wrong – we had a beautiful, sunshiny,  warm and dry day right at 25°C (77°F).
We spent the day sightseeing and making plans for the next few days.

We had a chance to see a very different side of the Durmitor Massif. Yesterday we were hiking through the woods until we reached timberline. Whereas the west side of the massif is rock and grass – practically no trees  - apparently the west receives much less precipation.

First we checked the starting point for a hike to a high lake on the west side of Bobotov Kuk (the highest peak in the Durmitor mountain range). While we were at the trail head to Veliko Skrkco Jezero we met some people returning so could get a good description of the trail.

The road to that  point is a paved single lane winding up around the hillsides. Fortunately there are occasional wide spots where two cars can meet and pass. (There were a few locals playing race car driver as well…)

In the afternoon we returned back to Tara Canyon and the Đurđevića Tara Bridge. Not much to see other than a high bridge crossing a river. We watched people zip line across the river and 10 Euros a trip. The next step was to organize a rafting trip down a section ot the Tara River. All set for 09:30 tomorrow morning – hope the weather holds!

The lady at Tara Kula Raft was helpful in describing another hike we want to make to Crverna Greda and to a lookout over the Tara Canyon named Curovac – impressive vertical drops from there!
