Cogne, Entry to the Gran Paradiso National Park

We started the day off with a nice breakfast on the terrace. Later in the day yellow jackets make it difficult to use but in the morning the terrace is shaded and quite nice.

We went to Cogne which is one of the entrances to the Gran Paradiso National Park – a very pretty drive to a very pretty mountain village through some very pretty mountain villages like Aymavilles.

Unfortunately Cogne is now overrun with tourists but still pretty. Originally it was reserved as the king’s private reserve but eventually became a national park. There are ski lifts on the side of the valley that is outside of the park.

In the parking lot the space in front of us claimed to be a bus but we know better – it takes more than three letters painted on concrete to make a bus.

Ferda found a King Charles Spaniel to make friends with. The owner was quite proud to show his dog off!

On the way to Cogne there was a beautiful waterfall along the narrow road winding up. Not wide enough to stop but Russ managed and we took photos.

Found an even higher priced toll on the freeway this evening. To go to a town 40 km away for Goran Bregovic concert, we used the freeway for about 22 km and the toll was 5€ - more than 0.20€ per km! Unfortunately the seating was full and we were turned back – along with hundreds of others. While walking there Russ took a picture of the castle where the concert is taking place. We couldn’t get to the concert but at least we have the picture of Forte di Bard as a souvenir.
